Georges Melies was a genuine virtuoso, producing and directing his own films while also devising the narrative, designing the sets, costumes and prop, and frequently performing the leading parts. Arranged in chronological order, this comprehensive collection makes widely available for the first time both the breadth and the depth of his work, disclosing  a discovery of the possibilities of cinema by a highly imaginative artist . This early wizard of modern filmmaking set a tempo for things to come. This collection celebrates 200 rare, original silent films by Georges Meliess, painstakingly gathered by Eric Lange and David Shepard, including his first film Partie de Cartes (1896) right on through to his last Voyage de la Famille Bourrichon (1913) on 6 DVDs. 1896-1913. (B&W/13 hrs/NR/fullscreen.) Thix box set includes a lovely half-hour introductory film, "Le Grand Melies" by Georges Franju, and a booklet introduced by Norman McLaren.
